Unit 5

Hello Everyone,

We are half-way through this class now and I can say that I have benefited tremendously from the excersices every week. This week we listened to The Subtle Mind practice. I took full advantage of this excersice because I found it so benefitial personally. I decided that a great spot to practice this excersice was at the river bank. I did this by the Virgin River in Zion National Park, and I have to say that the combination of the natural beauty that surrounded me, the sound of the river in the back ground, and the gental guiding voice of this excersice was truly peaceful.
The main difference I found between The Subtle Mind and the Kindness excersice of last week is where our focus lies. Last week we focused on projecting kindness and loving to others as well as ourself. This week we worked on the witnessing mind. We switched our intentions to acknowledging our thoughts and learning to let them flow through our mind rather then grasping onto them. Working on the witnessing mind is a powerful tool that allows us to choose what and how we respond the thoughts of ourselves, as well as the words and actions of others around us.
Working on our spiritual wellness can drastically improve our daily lives by gaining control of our mental thoughts and choosing what and how we resond to daily situations. This is a great excersice that I passed onto my co-workers as I feel it is a great way to work with the stresses of working in customer service.

  1. Hello Stephani. I think doing this exercise in a peaceful location, such as by the river, is a wonderful accommodation. Not only are you partaking in a relaxation exercise, but you are doing it in a relaxing atmosphere. This would truly be a peaceful experience. I enjoyed the subtle mind exercise just as much as the loving-kindness because they both exercise parts of our minds and bodies that will lead us to wellness. I found that my mind is very active, and I chose to do this exercise several times the first few days, and have incorporated it into my daily routine. It appears that you are embracing the benefits from this class and choosing to share your experience with others. I have not shared my exercises with others yet. I want to feel completely comfortable with them before I do so. Good luck to you!

It sounds like you have a beautiful spot to help you experience these exercises. You have the real deal, when I try to meditate I usually picture a shady riverbank on a warm summer day. I think that already being in my dream location would heighten the relaxation and cause the meditation to be more effective.

  3. Stephani,

I myself like to surround myself in white light before starting a meditation. I agree that one of the important differences between the two meditations is in what you are focusing on. I am grateful that there are so many different types of guided meditations to help us with our wellness. Not everyone can self meditate. :) (That sounds funny.) Anywho, it is good that there are guided meditations for those who need the extra help and so many different types with different focuses.

  4. Hello stephani,
I benefited from the exercises from this class as well. It's amazing how medition can make you aware of your own feelings and thoughts. I practiced subtle mind three times already and I love it. In addition, I like to practice it before I go deep into prayer:-)
