To answer the question...
Wellness, as a person centered orientation, relies heavily on the concept that
the individual is aware of his/her strengths and needs. However there is often
little encouragement or expectation for the individual to self reflect or take a
holistic personal inventory or to convey their awareness with their health
practitioner. Take a moment to reflect on your own level of wellness;
physically, psychologically, and spiritually.
If I were to rate myself on a scale of 1 to 10...
Physical Wellness - 9; I have made it my goal over the last 2 years to eat 90% raw and avoid high volumes of sugar and gluten. I have a nutritionist that helps me with my diet as well. I feel that this has helped my physical body immensly by providing my body with the nutrients it needs. I also practice yoga regularly which helps me to maintain a healthy physical body. Because I am very active in the outdoors (I love backpacking, hiking, skiing, and bicycling!) I like to try and maintain a healthy physical body to allow me try new things and challenge myself physically.
Spiritual Wellness - 6; for the majority of my life I have focused very little on my spiritual self. I am hoping that by taking the creating wellness class at Kaplan will help me learn more about my spiritual self. I have also been taking advice from friends on how to take my yoga classes and use them to focus on my spiritual self which I think will be beneficial.
Psychological Wellness - 6; I have plenty of room for improvment on my psychological wellness. I currently go to school full time, work full time, and have a 3 hour commute to and from work a couple of times each week. I have allowed this to cause a great deal of stress and anxiety in my life and need to find a sourse to release the stress. The reading in Chapter 5 from Dacher's text this week gave me new insight as he discussed the preparations for integral health. I believe I can use these preparations to help improve my psychological wellness. I will also set the goal to use my yoga practice to instill more silence and stillness into my life and focus more on inner self then my surroundings.
The excersice I completed The Crime of The Century was very beneficial to me! This excersice is something I would like to implement in my daily life to help me focus more on my inner self and to let go of all of the stress, and anxiety I experience. Using the rainbow method to relaxation is a great way to relax your entire body.
Hello Stephani. I applaud you for choosing mainly raw foods. This can make a huge difference in all areas. The better we feel physically, the better we feel psychologically. Yoga is a wonderful exercise for focusing on all three areas. Using yoga can work on the physical body, increase spiritual awareness, and clear our mind from the stressors that come our way each day. Meditation is a great tool. I do yoga and meditate on a regular basis and plan to increase the number of times I do them each week. I would recommend both for any of my clients. They can help with all areas and can be done be individuals at any fitness level. Good luck in reaching your goals!

Hi Stephani
ReplyDeleteSince 90% of what you eat is raw foods are you working towards becoming completely raw? That diet fascinates me. I can understand raw fruits and vegetables. Are you a vegetarian or vegan? Do you eat the cured meats for protein? So many questions about your diet choice.
I imagine that the 3 hour commute causes much stress and anxiety. Do you ever meditate during your commute? I don’t mean the eyes closed full on relaxed meditation but being able to calm your mind and focus on things that are important to you. If you have to waste 3 hours in the day in a car why not put them to good use?
You make such a good point! I often times down load audio books and use the time to learn a little bit more about nutrition, education, politics, or whatever is on my mind that week! I also have a playlist of calming music that I use for my morning commutes to help myself relax and relieve any stress and anxiety so I don't carry it to work with me. I have not mastered a vegan diet just yet. I have found that taking baby steps towards my diet help me to maintain it over time. I started by cutting out all meats, then cutting out milk and dairy products such as yogurt, and then cut out eggs. I still eat foods that contain milk and eggs such as some of the bread items I eat. I then began to eat mostly raw and would love to get to the point of eating 100% raw. It is amazing how much better I feel every time I take a step in that direction!
ReplyDeleteStphanie,
ReplyDeleteI see you have made good preparations for integral health and healing. You take skillful actions by practicing yoga to give you the stillness and silence. You get rid of the noise in your head with Yoga, and you are 90% raw with infuses 100% of your nutrients. By practicing Rainbow technique you allow the white light to enter your body and penetrate from head to toe. I enjoyed reading about your lifestyle, it is one to be mimiced. (Dacher, 2006) Dacher, E.
